What is Flock Safety ACTUALLY Selling... and To Who?

TREX LABS · 4 weeks ago

The short version: TREX Labs digs into Flock Safety's actual business model and customer base, and the answer is bigger and more troubling than 'just cameras for cops.'

Our Take

Credit to TREX Labs for pulling the thread on a question we think more people should be asking: what is Flock Safety really selling, and who's actually buying it? The company likes to pitch itself as a friendly neighborhood crime-fighting tool, but once you start mapping out the customer list and the product stack, the picture looks a lot more like a national surveillance infrastructure company that happens to use license plates as its entry point.

That distinction matters. A single ALPR camera on your street is one thing. A networked system feeding data into a product ecosystem sold to police departments, HOAs, and who knows what other buyers is something else entirely — it's infrastructure, and infrastructure has a way of outliving the narrow justification it was sold on. When a company's actual customer base and revenue model are murkier than its PR, that's exactly when outside reporting like this earns its keep.

If this video has you wondering what Flock's footprint looks like in your own town, check our camera map to see what's already been documented nearby, and head to our take-action page if you want to push back on it.
