Isacc
The short version: A resident named Isacc took the mic in New Hanover County to push back on Flock ALPR cameras, and DeFlockILM caught it on tape.
Our Take
Public comment periods are one of the last places ordinary people can put local officials on record about surveillance decisions made with little public input. DeFlockILM filmed exactly that in New Hanover County, where a resident named Isacc stood up at the Board of Commissioners meeting to raise concerns about the county's Flock ALPR network. We don't know every word he said, but the fact that someone felt compelled to show up and speak out says plenty about how these camera deployments are landing with the people actually living under them.
This is how accountability starts: not with a press release from Flock Safety, but with a citizen showing up to a county meeting, asking questions, and making officials respond in public. Credit to DeFlockILM for documenting it and keeping the receipts at DeFlockILM.org, because these local government meetings rarely get the attention they deserve, even though they're where the real decisions about your data get made.
If New Hanover County is running Flock cameras, it's not alone — these systems have spread county by county with little statewide oversight. Check our map to see what's logged near you, and if you want to raise your voice the way Isacc did, our take-action page has the tools to get started.
