Tyranny will Always have an Excuse #floridapolitics ##DEFLOCK

Florida GapFillers Podcast · 2 months ago

The short version: A Florida podcast's blunt title says it all: surveillance expands under whatever excuse works, and Flock cameras are no exception.

Our Take

The Florida GapFillers Podcast gets right to the point with a title that doubles as a thesis: every surveillance overreach in history has come wrapped in a justification, and Flock Safety's ALPR network is just the latest excuse dressed up as public safety. Credit to the hosts for naming the pattern plainly instead of getting lost in jargon — tyranny rarely announces itself, it just asks for "one more camera" at a time.

That framing matters because the Fourth Amendment argument isn't abstract. These cameras log every passing plate, building a timestamped map of where you drive, who you visit, and how often — all without a warrant, and often without most residents even knowing the hardware exists on their street. When local police departments or HOAs install them with zero public debate, the "it's just for catching criminals" line starts looking a lot like the excuses this video is pointing at.

If you want to see whether this is already happening near you, check our camera map for documented ALPR locations, and if you're ready to push back, our take-action page has concrete steps for raising it at your next city council meeting.
