America is going to run out of water

Digital ID, Mass Surveillance and Digital Currency · 3 months ago

The short version: A mass-surveillance channel warns about America's water future, a reminder that resource control and tracking tech often travel together.

Our Take

This one comes from a channel that spends most of its time digging into digital ID, CBDCs, and surveillance creep in the UK and US — so a video about America running dry is a bit of a departure from our usual ALPR beat. We can't verify the specific water claims made here, and we're not going to pretend to be hydrologists, but the broader instinct behind the channel's work is worth taking seriously: infrastructure problems have a nasty habit of becoming justification for more monitoring, not less.

Water scarcity, grid strain, 'smart' utility rollouts — these are exactly the kinds of crises that get used to sell communities on more cameras, more sensors, more data collection 'for efficiency' or 'for security.' Flock Safety and similar ALPR vendors have already shown how quickly a pitch about catching stolen cars turns into a blanket surveillance net logging every driver's movements, regardless of suspicion. When resource pressure rises, so does the appetite for tracking who's using what, where, and when.

Credit to the creator for keeping an eye on the bigger picture of where tech-driven control is headed, even outside our usual lane. If you want to see how much of that tracking infrastructure is already sitting on your street corner, check our camera map, and if you'd rather not wait for the next crisis to be used as an excuse for more cameras, our take-action page has concrete steps you can take now.
