We Fought Flock Cameras Before It Was Popular

Scott Jewett for Florida Governor · 4 weeks ago

The short version: A gubernatorial candidate takes a victory lap on Flock cameras being pulled from Florida's state roads — but the real fight is the 98% still watching local streets.

Our Take

Credit where it's due: Scott Jewett is pointing at a real win here. Florida yanking ALPR permits off state roads is the kind of outcome that only happens when enough people make noise about a surveillance system most residents never voted on and most legislators never explained. That's worth saying out loud, regardless of who's saying it or what office they're running for.

But the number buried in his own description is the part that should stop you cold: 98% of these cameras sit on local roads, outside whatever narrow carve-out just got revoked. That's the pattern everywhere Flock operates — a headline-grabbing policy change at the state or federal level while city councils and county sheriffs quietly keep hundreds of cameras logging every plate that passes through a neighborhood, a church parking lot, or a kid's school route. One permit getting pulled doesn't touch that network.

If you want to know whether your own street is on that list, check our camera map before you assume this fight is over. And if you're ready to push your local government the way Florida just got pushed on state roads, our take-action page has the tools to start.
