The short version: A New Haven creator maps local Flock ALPR cameras, turning abstract surveillance into a visible, block-by-block reality.

Our Take

Credit where it's due: the channel Advice On Experience did what more residents should be doing — actually going out and documenting the Flock Safety cameras sitting on poles around New Haven. It's one thing to read that a city has ALPRs; it's another to watch someone point a camera at the camera and say, "here it is, on your street."

This kind of grassroots documentation matters because Flock and local police departments rarely volunteer a full accounting of where these devices live, what they capture, or how long the data sits in a database accessible to other agencies. When a private citizen fills that gap with a simple video walkthrough, it does more to inform a neighborhood than any press release ever will.

If New Haven's count surprised you, check our camera map to see what's logged in your own area, and if you don't see it covered yet, our take action page has steps for getting your city's ALPR footprint on the record.
