What is a Flock Camera, and How Can You Avoid Them? #Deflock #SurveillanceTech #KnowYourRights
The short version: Nate Craven's primer on Flock cameras is a solid entry point for newcomers, even if 'avoiding' ALPRs is harder than it sounds.
Our Take
Credit to Nate Craven for putting a plain-language explainer out there. Most people have driven past a dozen Flock Safety cameras without knowing what they are, let alone that the plate reads are logged, timestamped, and shared across a network of police departments and private subscribers. Videos like this matter because the surveillance only works at this scale because it's invisible to the average driver.
That said, we'd push back gently on the framing of "avoiding" these cameras. Flock's whole pitch to law enforcement is total coverage — intersections, neighborhood entrances, highway on-ramps — so rerouting around one camera often just means feeding data to the next one down the road. The more durable fix isn't a clever driving route, it's knowing where the cameras actually are and organizing to get unaccountable ones removed or regulated at the city council level.
If this video got you curious, check our map to see what's logged near you, and head to take action if you want to push back on a deployment in your town.
