Big 4 consultanting forms embarass themselves using AI

Digital ID, Mass Surveillance and Digital Currency · 4 months ago

The short version: A mass-surveillance watchdog channel highlights Big 4 firms getting caught using sloppy, unverified AI — a cautionary tale for unchecked surveillance tech.

Our Take

The video, from the channel Digital ID, Mass Surveillance and Digital Currency, catalogs Big 4 consulting firms tripping over their own AI-generated work — fabricated citations, lazy copy-paste errors, the kind of stuff that should never survive a basic review. It's a useful reminder that even the firms billed as the smartest in the room will cut corners when a shiny new tool promises to save time and money.

That matters to us because Flock Safety and the police departments buying its ALPR networks operate on the same unverified-trust model. We're told the cameras are accurate, the AI flags are reliable, the retention policies are followed to the letter — but there's rarely independent audit, and when mistakes surface (wrong plate, wrong car, wrong person stopped at gunpoint) the accountability trail is thin. If a Big 4 firm with reputational skin in the game can't be bothered to check its AI's work, why would we assume a surveillance vendor selling to hundreds of small-town police departments is doing better?

The lesson is simple: don't take vendor claims on faith, and don't assume oversight exists just because a contract was signed. Check whether ALPR cameras are already watching your neighborhood on our map, and if you want to push back on deployments near you, our take-action page has the tools to get started.
