Credit to akitten 47 for cutting through the branding noise in just a few seconds. Flock Safety gets most of the headlines, but as the video points out, Motorola Solutions, Genetec, and a handful of other vendors are selling the same core product: cameras that read every plate that passes, timestamp it, geotag it, and dump it into a searchable database. The company name on the pole doesn't change what the system does to your privacy.
This matters because a lot of the public debate gets stuck on one brand, as if swapping vendors or renaming a program solves the underlying problem. It doesn't. Whether it's a green Flock unit or a Motorola-badged reader on a traffic signal, the effect is identical: a permanent, retroactively searchable record of where you drove, sold to police departments and sometimes shared across state lines with zero warrant required. Multiple companies competing for the same contracts just means the surveillance infrastructure spreads faster, not that any single company is the real villain.
