Eyes on You: The Rise of Mass Surveillance in Ohio Webinar
The short version: ACLU of Ohio's webinar and new toolkit arm Ohioans with the knowledge and tactics to push back on Flock-style mass surveillance in their own towns.
Our Take
Credit where it's due: the ACLU of Ohio isn't just complaining about surveillance creep, they're handing people a toolkit. "Eyes on You" is exactly the kind of grassroots education this fight needs, because most city councils approve ALPR contracts in a single reading with zero public pushback, simply because nobody in the room understood what Flock Safety's cameras actually do or how long that data sticks around.
Ohio has quietly become one of the more Flock-saturated states in the country, and that didn't happen because residents voted on it. It happened because vendors pitched it as a quiet line item for "public safety" and officials signed off before anyone asked about retention windows, data-sharing agreements with other agencies, or what happens when a camera misreads a plate and sends police to the wrong driveway. A webinar like this matters because the only real check on that pipeline is an informed public showing up to council meetings and asking hard questions before the cameras go up, not after.
If you want to see how saturated your own area already is, check our camera map, and if you're ready to push back locally, our take-action page has the tools to get started.
