Give credit where it's due: as covered by Verified Privacy VPN, this city didn't just pass a strongly-worded resolution and call it a day. They tried to fix the ICE data-sharing problem with policy language — twice — and both times the fix didn't hold. That's the tell. Flock's network is built to move data across jurisdictions, and once your plate reads are sitting in a shared system, promises about who can and can't query them are only as good as the next vendor update, the next data-sharing agreement, or the next audit that nobody runs.

This is why we keep saying "delete the policy loophole" isn't a real solution — the only guaranteed way to keep local plate data out of ICE's hands is to not collect it in the first place. Twelve cameras down is a real, measurable win, and it's a template other city councils should be looking at right now, especially ones that think a memo of understanding will hold up when federal agencies come knocking.
