Surveillance drones in schools BAD

Digital ID, Mass Surveillance and Digital Currency · 3 months ago

The short version: A channel known for mass-surveillance reporting flags drones being deployed over schools, raising fresh alarms about normalizing constant monitoring of kids.

Our Take

The channel behind this video has built a niche digging into the creeping infrastructure of surveillance — from digital ID schemes to license plate readers — and this entry turns the lens on schools, where drones are reportedly joining the list of tools watching students. We can't verify every claim in the video ourselves, but the broader pattern it's pointing to is one we track closely: surveillance tech marketed as "safety" quietly expanding into spaces where kids have no say and parents often aren't told the full picture.

This is the same playbook we see with Flock Safety's ALPR cameras rolling into neighborhoods and school zones across the country. A drone hovering over a playground and a camera logging every car that passes a bus stop are both part of the same trend: normalizing constant, automated tracking of ordinary people under the banner of protection. Once that infrastructure is in place, it rarely gets scaled back — and the data rarely stays limited to its original purpose.

If you want to see how much of this is already in your own backyard, check our camera map to find ALPR deployments near you, and visit our take-action page if you want to push back on surveillance creep in your community, school district, or city council.
