Credit to FOX 5 Atlanta for flagging this, but the framing is all too familiar: a "drone as first responder" program that started small gets an upgrade, and nobody asks what happens to the footage, how long it's kept, or who else gets access to it. Brookhaven PD has been flying drones for years — now it's scaling up, presumably with more units, more coverage, and more routine flights over the city. That's the pattern with these programs everywhere: start narrow, expand quietly, and let "public safety" do the talking so residents never get a real vote on whether they want a department that can put eyes in the sky over their backyard on demand.

Drone programs like this rarely exist in isolation. They tend to run alongside ALPR networks, license plate cameras, and other tools that together build a much more complete picture of where people go and when. Georgia has become one of the more heavily Flock-camera-saturated states in the country, and a growing drone fleet is just one more layer stacked on top of that. Each piece gets sold separately as reasonable and limited, but the sum is a surveillance apparatus that most residents never explicitly agreed to.
