What the Flock! Are We Already FLOCKED
The short version: Nyam78's video unpacks how Flock Safety's friendly branding masks a sprawling license-plate surveillance network already blanketing American roads.
Our Take
Credit to Nyam78 for pointing out what we've been saying for a while: the name "Flock" is doing a lot of marketing work. A cute bird logo and a folksy name make automated license plate readers feel harmless, even neighborly. That's the point. Surveillance infrastructure sells better when it doesn't sound like surveillance infrastructure.
The real question the video raises — are we already "flocked" — is worth sitting with. These cameras aren't hypothetical future tech. They're bolted to poles in thousands of towns right now, quietly logging every plate that passes, building a searchable history of where you drive, when, and how often, all without a warrant. Most residents have no idea how many of these devices sit between their house and the grocery store.
That's exactly why visibility matters. If a branding exercise can make dragnet surveillance feel invisible, the fix is making the actual hardware visible. Check our camera map to see what's been documented near you, and head to take-action if you want to push back on your local council or police department before the flock gets any bigger.
