Louisville Mayor Greenberg promotes FLOCK cameras

Eugene Beecher · 1 month ago

The short version: A Louisville TV clip shows Mayor Greenberg championing Flock Safety cameras, the latest mayor to sell ALPR dragnets as a public-safety win without public debate.

Our Take

Footage from Eugene Beecher via FOXLiveNOW shows Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg putting his weight behind Flock Safety's license plate readers — another local executive treating a mass-surveillance rollout as a routine press-conference announcement rather than a policy decision that deserves a real public hearing.

This is the playbook we see in city after city: a mayor or police chief frames the cameras as a simple crime-fighting tool, the vendor pitch gets repeated almost verbatim, and residents find out after the fact that every plate on every car gets logged, timestamped, and stored — regardless of whether anyone's suspected of anything. Louisville drivers deserve to know how many of these cameras are going up, who can access the data, how long it's retained, and whether it's shared with other agencies, including federal ones. None of that gets settled by a mayor's talking points.
