DeFlock Lowe's SF is TOMORROW

DeFlock SF · 4 months ago

The short version: DeFlock SF is rallying outside the Bayshore Lowe's to push back on Flock Safety cameras, turning online frustration into an actual sidewalk presence.

Our Take

Credit to DeFlock SF for doing the unglamorous work of local organizing: picking a date, a street corner, and showing up. It's easy to post about ALPR overreach; it's harder to stand outside a Lowe's parking lot and ask neighbors to care. That's the difference between awareness and actual pressure on city officials who signed off on this stuff with little public debate.

San Francisco has quietly become one of the more surveilled cities in the country when it comes to automated plate readers, and most residents have no idea how many cameras are logging their daily movements or who gets access to that data. A rally outside a hardware store won't dismantle Flock's footprint overnight, but it puts a human face on the opposition and signals to city hall that people are paying attention.

If you're in the Bay Area and want to see exactly how many Flock cameras are already watching your block, check our camera map, and if you want to do more than watch, our take-action page has concrete steps for pushing back where you live.
