Discover Keygon’s LPR/ANPR license plate recognition system

Keygon Sofia · 2 months ago

The short version: Keygon Sofia's promo for its LPR/ANPR system is a reminder that plate-reading tech is a booming global industry, not just a U.S. problem.

Our Take

This clip from Keygon Sofia is a straightforward vendor demo reel, the kind of polished product pitch that shows up whenever a company wants to sell automated license plate recognition to police departments, parking operators, or private security firms. There's no scandal here and no leaked footage — just a company showcasing what its cameras and software can do. But that's exactly why it's worth pausing on: this is the sales pitch side of the surveillance pipeline, the slick marketing that convinces a city council or HOA board to sign a contract before anyone has asked hard questions about data retention, access logs, or who else gets to see where your car has been.

Every one of these demo videos represents another company competing to blanket more streets with cameras that log your movements by default, whether or not you've done anything wrong. Keygon joins a crowded field that includes Flock Safety and dozens of other ALPR vendors, all pitching the same promise: total vehicle visibility, sold as public safety. The technology keeps improving and keeps getting cheaper, which means it keeps spreading into neighborhoods and parking lots with little public debate about the tradeoffs.

If you want to see how far this has already spread near you, check our camera map, and if you'd rather not wait for the next vendor demo to show up as a camera on your street, our take-action page has concrete steps for pushing back.
