Flock Safety Opens New Boston Office | Growing Jobs, Innovation & Safer Communities
The short version: Flock's Boston office launch video is a slick jobs-and-growth pitch that quietly sidesteps the surveillance infrastructure it's actually scaling up.
Our Take
This is a corporate recruitment reel dressed up as a civic good-news story, and credit where it's due to Flock's marketing team for the polish. But strip away the Seaport District backdrop and the talk of 150 new jobs, and what you're left with is a company announcing it's doubling down on building out the largest private ALPR surveillance network in the country. "Safer communities" is doing a lot of work in that title for a product whose core function is logging the movements of every car that passes a camera, regardless of whether the driver is suspected of anything.
Boston already hosts Flock hardware across the metro area, and a bigger local office means more sales reps knocking on more town council doors, more "customer success" staff keeping police departments renewing contracts, and more engineers refining the tech that feeds license plate data into a searchable, networked database shared well beyond any one city's borders. None of that shows up in a video about ribbon-cuttings and job growth, which is exactly the point — the business case for expansion sounds a lot better than the surveillance case.
If Flock is setting up shop near you, or already has cameras on your streets, it's worth knowing exactly where. Check our camera map to see what's been deployed in your area, and if you want to push back on a new contract or renewal, our take-action page has the tools to get started.
