No Destruyas Cámaras FLOCK

Caza Migras · 2 months ago

The short version: Caza Migras argues that smashing Flock cameras isn't the answer—documenting and reporting them is more effective in the fight against ALPR surveillance of immigrant communities.

Our Take

Credit to Caza Migras for tackling a question we hear constantly: what do you actually do when you spot a Flock camera watching your block? Their answer—don't destroy it—lines up with what we've argued from day one. Vandalism gets you arrested, replaces the hardware in a week, and hands Flock a press release about 'protecting public safety.' It does nothing to slow the actual harm: a nationwide network of license plate data that local police routinely share with ICE and other federal agencies, often without the public ever being told.

The real leverage is in making these systems visible and accountable. That means knowing exactly where cameras are installed in your neighborhood, who operates them, and what data-sharing agreements exist—then using that information to pressure city councils, push for opt-out audits, and organize public comment campaigns. Immigrant communities are frequently the first ones surveilled under the banner of 'traffic safety,' which is exactly why transparency matters more than a hammer.

If you want to see what's already been mapped near you, check our camera map, and if you're ready to push back through the system instead of around it, our take-action guide walks through effective, legal ways to organize against ALPR expansion.
