Cops Are Being FIRED For Using Flock Cameras To Do This! #shorts #viral #dating
The short version: A viral short from creator J.R. Wisdom spotlights officers getting fired for misusing Flock license plate data for personal reasons, underscoring that ALPR abuse isn't hypothetical.
Our Take
Credit to J.R. Wisdom for putting a human face on a problem we've been flagging for a while: once a network of license plate readers exists, it will get misused by someone with access to it, and often that someone is wearing a badge. Whether it's tracking an ex, a date, or a personal grudge, these systems hand officers a searchable log of where your car has been, and the guardrails against abuse are usually an honor system backed by an audit log nobody checks until after the damage is done.
This is the part Flock's marketing never leads with. The company sells the cameras as a tool for solving crimes, but every one of these systems is also a tool for stalking, harassment, and plain old curiosity about a neighbor or a partner. Firings after the fact don't undo the privacy violation, and for every case that becomes a news story, there are almost certainly others that never surface because nobody was watching the watchers.
If you want to know whether your street already has one of these cameras logging your movements, check our map, and if you'd rather not wait for the next abuse story to break before your city acts, our take-action page has concrete steps for pushing back at the local level.
