Hiring a PI: Exposing Flock CEO's Privacy Secrets! #shorts
The short version: A creator hired a PI to shadow Flock Safety's CEO with the same tools ALPR companies use on everyone else, exposing the double standard at the heart of mass surveillance.
Our Take
DirectorGarg's stunt is a simple but effective flip: turn the exact surveillance apparatus Flock Safety sells to police departments back on the man running the company. Every plate, every address, every move — the same language Flock uses to sell its cameras as harmless public safety tools suddenly sounds a lot more invasive when a private investigator is doing it to one specific, named person instead of an entire town's worth of unconsenting drivers.
That's the trick these companies rely on. Mass surveillance feels abstract when it's happening to millions of strangers at once, but deeply personal the moment it's aimed at someone with a name and a face. Flock's CEO presumably didn't love the idea of his movements being logged in 4K — which is exactly the discomfort residents living under a network of Flock cameras feel every single day, minus the choice to opt out.
Videos like this won't dismantle the ALPR industry on their own, but they're useful for cutting through the marketing. If this makes you wonder how much of your own driving history is sitting in a database somewhere, check our camera map to see what's tracking you locally, and visit take action for ways to push back.
