FlockAware: mapped Flock cameras, offline maps & private saved places
The short version: A new iPhone app, FlockAware, maps known Flock/ALPR cameras for offline navigation and CarPlay use, putting camera awareness directly in drivers' hands.
Our Take
Credit where it's due: the FlockAware team is building something the surveillance industry never intended for the public to have — a consumer-facing tool that puts camera locations right on your dashboard. Offline maps, CarPlay integration, private saved places — this is the kind of practical, privacy-first engineering that flips the script on a system designed to track you without your knowledge or consent.
What makes this matter isn't just convenience. Flock Safety and similar ALPR networks were built on the assumption that most people would never know where the cameras are, let alone who's accessing the data they collect. Tools like FlockAware chip away at that information asymmetry. When drivers can see where they're being watched, the surveillance stops being invisible — and that visibility is the first step toward accountability, whether that's local organizing, public records requests, or just making informed choices about your own movement.
We're glad to see independent developers building in this space, and we'd encourage anyone using tools like this to cross-reference with our camera map and to get involved through our take-action resources if you want to push back on ALPR expansion in your own community. Crowdsourced awareness only works if more people contribute what they find.
