Are We Entering A Dystopian World?

Julianfanclipz1 · 3 weeks ago

The short version: A clip from Julian Dorey's podcast asks if Orwellian surveillance is already here, and Flock's ALPR network is Exhibit A.

Our Take

Credit where it's due: clips like this one from Julianfanclipz1, pulled from Julian Dorey's podcast, do something valuable just by putting 'Flock cameras' in the same sentence as Orwell. Most people still think of license plate readers as a niche cop tool, not a nationwide tracking grid. When a general-audience show starts connecting the dots between Flock, the Epstein files, and the broader drift toward dystopia, that's a sign the conversation is finally escaping the policy-wonk bubble.

We'd push the framing a step further, though. You don't need a grand unified theory of societal collapse to see the problem with Flock — you just need to know that a private company has quietly wired thousands of towns into a searchable database of everyone's movements, often with zero public vote and minimal retention limits. That's not a hypothetical 'are we headed toward surveillance state' question. It's a present-tense infrastructure question: who installed this near you, who can query it, and what happens to the data. Big-picture podcast conversations are useful for waking people up, but the actual fight happens at the city council level, camera by camera.

If this video got you thinking, don't stop at the thought experiment. Check our map to see how many Flock units are already logging plates in your area, and if the number surprises you, head to take action for concrete steps to push back before the network gets bigger.
