Some schools in Aurora have Flock cameras monitoring parking lot entrances
The short version: CBS Colorado reports Aurora Public Schools installed Flock ALPR cameras at parking lot entrances, framed as a safety measure by police.
Our Take
Credit to CBS Colorado for catching this one: license plate readers are now creeping into school parking lots, not just highways and neighborhood entrances. Framing it as a safety tool for students is an easy sell, but what it really means is that every parent, teacher, and visitor driving onto campus gets logged, timestamped, and fed into a database that can be queried by police long after the school day ends.
Schools are supposed to be one of the last places in American life not wired up with constant tracking. Once Flock cameras go in at drop-off lines, that line gets crossed quietly, with little public debate about who can access the data, how long it's kept, or whether it's shared with other agencies, including ICE and out-of-state police, as has happened elsewhere. Parents in Aurora deserve real answers, not just a press line from police about 'safety.'
