This clip from the Auburn, CA (Placer County) Board of Supervisors meeting on August 10th captures exactly the kind of grassroots pushback that's been popping up in small towns and county seats across the country as Flock Safety's ALPR network keeps expanding with little public debate before the contracts get signed.
We don't have a full transcript here and we're not going to pretend we do, but the pattern is familiar: a local government considers or has already approved a network of automated license plate readers, residents show up to ask who has access to the data, how long it's retained, and whether anyone bothered to ask the public first. Those are the right questions. Once a Flock network is live, reversing it is much harder than stopping it before the vote.
