Flock Cameras Catch Criminals When Cities Can't! #shorts

Pod-Clips · 2 weeks ago

The short version: A quick-hit clip praises Flock's crime-solving wins without grappling with the surveillance trade-offs, and that gap is exactly the problem.

Our Take

Pod-Clips' short, built around a few flashy anecdotes, repeats the pitch we hear from every city council pushing a Flock contract: cameras catch bad guys, so what's the issue? What gets lost in a 60-second format is everything that happens between the install and the "gotcha" moment — months or years of every plate, every driver, every trip to the pharmacy or church or protest, quietly logged and stored by a private company with murky retention and sharing rules.

Tossing ShotSpotter into the mix only underscores the pattern. Both tools get sold to the public on their best-case anecdotes, while the mountain of ordinary data collected on innocent people — and the audit failures, data leaks, and mission creep that follow — rarely make it into the highlight reel. "It caught a criminal once" is not the same thing as "it's worth normalizing blanket surveillance of everyone who drives."

We're not saying Flock never helps close a case. We're saying that's not the whole ledger, and communities deserve to see the full cost before they vote yes. Check our map to see if these cameras are already watching your commute, and visit take action if you'd rather your city debate this with real information instead of a highlight reel.
