30. One conditional offer accepted. That candidate has moved to the pre-hiring
stage.
iii. Dispatch: Authorized 11 (*2026 10), current staffing 8. One candidate has
accepted a conditional offer and has moved to the pre-hiring stage. A second
candidate is still in the background process.

DISPATCH STAFFING & UPDATES
•

Dispatch has had their 9-1-1 hardware refresh to the 9-1-1 cloud-based system. This was completed without issue.

•

Dispatch began using the new Prepared 9-1-1 software that enables AI assistance in call-taking. There are some portions of
the software (translation and transcription) that are not yet live, but departmental training on the system will begin soon.

•

Dispatch Supervisor Cindia gained access to the new Medina County emergency alert system, Regroup, and has begun to set
up the internal city contacts and groups. The county should complete the transition to the new system in September.

•

One dispatch candidate has been given a conditional offer of employment. One candidate is currently in the background
investigation stage.

WPD’s school resource officers attended the OSROA Annual
Conference.

A patrol officer candidate was given a conditional
offer on 8/7/2026.
There are no other eligible candidates from the
current civil service list.

JULY 15 – SAFETY ON THE SPECTRUM
Twenty-three officers attended this session hosted by the
Autism Society of Greater Akron which gave strategies for
dealing with individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
JULY 15 – ACTIVE KILLER TRAINING
Twenty officers attended this departmental training focusing on
dual officer response to an active killer incident.
July 29 – DEFENSIVE TACTICS
This departmental training session involved a defensive tactics
exercise combined with a stress-induced firearms scenario
involving simunitions weapons.

JUNE OFFICER OF THE MONTH –
OFC. MIKE MILESKI

JULY OFFICER OF THE MONTH –
OFC. ANTHONY MERLENE

During the month of June, Ofc. Mileski made 36 traffic stops,
had 5 misdemeanor arrests, and wrote 5 parking citations and
14 traffic citations. Additionally, Ofc. Mileski completed 4
crash reports and 7 incident reports. Since moving to 3rd shift,
Ofc. Mileski has worked diligently on OVI enforcement,
resulting in 3 OVI arrests in June. Ofc. Mileski also made
arrests for disorderly conduct, drug paraphernalia, a felony
protection order violation, and falsification.

In the month of July, Ofc. Merlene’s proactivity on 3rd
shift led to 15 traffic stops, 5 arrests, 7 parking citations,
11 traffic citations, 4 OVIs, 8 incident reports, and 77 calls
for service. Ofc. Merlene worked on a variety of cases
including an arrest for suspected methamphetamine and
drug abuse instruments and a particularly difficult DOA.
Additionally, all 4 of Ofc. Merlene’s OVI arrests were due
to his proactive patrol and observance of equipment or
traffic violations.
