Gary Schneider, Public Works Director
FROM: Robert Nye
Date: September 29, 2026
“Preserving the Town of Waterford’s history is important... and a responsibility”, according to a post
from First Selectman Rob Brule. Yet the Recreation and Parks and Public Works Departments have
failed miserably to maintain the Park House grounds. The site is part of the 3.8-acre Jordan Green, a gift
from Anna Nevins in 1952.
Vines are growing up the side of the historic building, the town’s first purpose-built library (1928), a gift
from Anna Rumrill Hammond. The shrubs in the front are out of control. The tree on the west side
needs a significant amount of trimming, and the trees along the north bound have long out-lived their
purpose and should come down. The overgrowth traps moisture and paint doesn’t adhere well in some
areas.
Meanwhile the site has become an embarrassment to the town. The legacies of Anna Rumrill Hammond
and Anna Nevins deserve better.
