Hamilton County Sheriff Austin Garrett directed staff August 31, 2026 to begin pausing the sheriff's office Flock License Plate Recognition and Motorola LPR programs. Garrett cited weeks of deliberation and said the primary factor was concern about public data and potential misuse of what is captured. Coverage put about 70 cameras across Hamilton County under the sheriff's programs. Garrett said he still believes in LPR technology but ordered command staff to work through the concerns before resuming.
