But the video treats the vandalism as the anomaly when the real anomaly is how quietly thousands of these cameras got installed in the first place, often with zero public hearing, zero opt-out, and zero transparency about who gets access to the data.

People don't destroy $2,500 pieces of municipal equipment on a whim. They do it when they feel like there's no other lever left to pull — no city council vote they can influence, no vendor contract they can read, no way to find out if their daily commute is sitting in a database shared with agencies outside their state. That frustration is a symptom, not the disease. The disease is a surveillance network that expanded faster than the oversight meant to check it.
